Wishing All A Very Merry Christmas Season!
From The Reed Family Ranch

The Reed Family Ranch wants to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas season. Hope ol Santa is good to you!

Here's wishing everybody the best for a healthy and fun holiday season - and that your 2008 is the best year ever!

Hunting Club Membership Spots: Annual Invitations!

January is the month for the annual invitations to go out for next year's hunting club memberships at the Reed Family Ranch. There's a list that's maintained for use in making contact with everybody that's expressed an interest in joining up. Contacts for 2008-09 club membership will begin soon!

During the end of December - and the first part of January - everybody on this list will be contacted about whether they're still interested in a club membership spot. Also, during this time, current club members will be contacted about whether they plan on coming back for another year. After all the contacts are made - and responses received back - available spots will be filled.

The two biggest changes for 2008-09 hunting club membership are year-round access to the ranch for club members - and also, new arrangements for club member guests for hog and varmint hunting. Check out the special hog and varmint hunting arrangements by clicking HERE!

Feel free to check out the arrangements for the Reed Family Ranch Hunting Club! - and let me know if anybody has any questions. Also, if you've not been contacted within the time frame that you're needing - feel free to send email to oljim@reedfamilyranch.com and we'll be sure to give you an update on things.

Looking forward to talking with everybody! Sure am looking forward to the 2008-09 year - oughta be another good one!

Hunting Club Report - Reed Family Ranch Deer Season!

We're now in our 12th week of deer season on the Reed Family Ranch. Our gun season began on September 29th and lasts through the end of January. As of the date of the scheduling of this newsletter, there's been a reported total of three trophy buck, two cull buck, six doe, four hogs, and two coyote taken by hunting club members - with lots more being spotted!

The ranch received thirty TPWD doe permits for this season. Six doe have been taken so far this year - so, we still have twenty-four doe permits left to be used before our hunting club season for white-tailed deer ends on January 31st, 2008!

After the end of January, the hunting club will move into hog and varmint hunting full-force! We sure are proud of our hunting club - it's bout the best around!

Photos taken so far this season can be viewed by clicking HERE!

Be On the Lookout! Reed Ranch Critter, You've Been Spotted!

The SWAMP RABBIT is about two times the size of a cottontail rabbit and is darker in color. They are seen primarily in ranch bottomlands, swamps, and marshes - and are excellent swimmers!

They prefer aquatic plants and grasses and can feed in water up to 3 to 4 foot deep! They produce two to three litters per year with two to five young per litter. The potential lifespan of a swamp rabbit is 8 to 10 years but most only live less than one year.

Be on the lookout for a sighting of a SWAMP RABBIT roaming out and about on the Reed Family Ranch!

Reed Family Ranch Duck Season Now Open!

Duck season officially opened on November 3rd and - with a good amount of water all around - hunters are expecting the conditions to be so good that not even hunting pressure will push 'em out.

Because of some late summer dryness, some of the sloughs and wetlands began to dry up, but (unlike last year) the soil moisture will still be there - so the ranch's sloughs and wetland areas oughta begin filling in a hurry when more rains come.

Wildlife biologists are reporting that "It may be in November or December, but by the first week in January, we will have 75 to 80 percent of the birds from the Central Flyway".

The dates for duck season this year are November 3rd through November 25th - and December 8th through January 27th. Projections are that this oughta end up being a pretty good year for duck hunting!
