Reed Family Ranch White-Tailed Deer Season (Gun) Now Open!

The Reed Family Ranch deer season is now in full swing for 2007-08. So far this year, there have been two doe and two hogs killed. A total of 30 TPWD doe permits have been received for this season, and we plan on using every one of 'em!

Hunters are already reporting that some mighty good buck have been spotted, but no triggers have been pulled yet. With all the great natural nutrition out and about, the deer have been getting plenty of food supply without having to come to corn feeders. This'll likely involve different types of hunting strategies for some hunters.

There was good attendance at the hunting club member meeting that was held on the evening before deer season opening-day. The main purpose of this meeting was to talk about the season harvesting goals and such. Also, some new arrangements for 2008 hog and varmint hunting were adopted, and plans for the addition of a cooler at the ranch were made.

We're looking forward to another great season!

Ranch Adopts New Hog Hunting Plans for 2008!

Oljim and hunting club member Malcolm with hog a'hangin'!

The Reed Family Ranch has some changes in store for 2008 hog and varmint hunting. The new arrangements were discussed at the most recent hunting club meeting and all the details were worked out with subsequent emails and such.

The new arrangements involve guests of hunting club members being invited out for Reed Family Ranch hog and varmint hunting during the period from February 1st, 2008 through the end of June 2008.

The ranch fee for each guest is $100 and includes two overnight stays in ranch cabins for no additional charge. Gonna be some fun huntin' in 2008!

More details and such for 2008 hog and varmint hunting can be found by logging on HERE!

Be On the Lookout! Reed Ranch Critter, You've Been Spotted!

The general habitat of the GRAY FOX is mostly limited to warmer climates. It has a beautiful tail and striking features, is a loner, and normally scoots when people come around.

The gray fox usually mates in February each year. Be on the lookout for a quick sighting of a gray fox roaming out and about on the Reed Family Ranch!

Texas Population of Feral Hogs Projected to Double in 2008!

Here's a tidbit of information that's been published here lately that we figured might be of interest to ya'll. Check it out,,ok?

"Texas farmers and ranchers dealing with the nation's largest population of feral hogs may soon be trying to ward off twice as many of the animals. Ample water and vegatation brought by record-setting rains this year could double the current estimate of 2 million wild hogs, wildlife officials say."

Wow! If things happen like the wildlife people are projecting that they could, sure does sounds to me like there's gonna be lots of full freezers for Texas hunters in 2008! Yummy!
