REPORT ON 2002 DEER SEASON!

For the first time in four years, we failed to meet our deer harvest goals for antlerless deer. Of the 32 antlerless deer planned to be taken, we were able to take only 21 of 'em.

A total of 29 deer were harvested for the 2002-2003 season. Here's the breakdown:

21 Antlerless Deer (includes 3 button buck)
5 cull buck
3 trophy buck

Also, five hogs and six coyote were taken by club members.

We make it a practice of weighing and aging each of our deer taken. Here's the average weights of the mature doe that's been taken, for each of the four most recent years:

  Year   Avg Weight
1999-00 - 66 lbs
2000-01 - 65 lbs
2001-02 - 68 lbs
2002-03 - 70 lbs

We're real pleased that our deer appear to be getting bigger and healthier all the time! Here's three of my favorites photo's from the season!

OL JIM'S HUNTIN' CLUB!
PARTIAL MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE for 2003!

As of the date of this newsletter, all our full hunting club memberships appear to be taken for this current year. We appreciate everybody's interest in coming out, and I've enjoyed meeting up with some of you.

I wanted to let everybody know that there's still partial club memberships available.

In case any of you are interested, here's the way the partial memberships work. It's hoped that these partial memberships can be used to move into full memberships when spots become available.

Beginning in February, we'll be having seven hunts we're calling our "hog, varmint, and fishing fun weekends".

The ranch will be providing general support for the hunting spots; in terms of feeders, stands, and such. And we'll be working with each hunter who wants to supplement this, up and above what the ranch will be providing.

Right now, there's 6 openings for these partial membership spots. The cost is $700 per spot.

Email me at oljim@reedfamilyranch.com if you're interested in this type of arrangement.

Thanks!

It was a cold day in January as four father/youth teams (including a father/daughter team) took to the field for the last group doe hunt of the season.

2003 RANCH WILDLIFE HABITAT MAP!

For everybody that keeps up with this sort of thing, here's the 2003 Reed Ranch wildlife habitat map for 2003. This map is used for two things:

(1) for members of the hunting club to identify areas for them to work
(2) to identity ranch focus areas for wildlife habitat enhancement projects.
If anybody has any questions about these habitat areas and their arrangement, feel free to get in contact with me at oljim@reedfamilyranch.com . Thanks!
