REED RANCH 2004 SPRING BURGER FLING, MAY 15TH, WHAT FUN!
Shore
did enjoy having everybody out to the Burger Fling. It was fun!
The food was fantastic! ![]()
Great time for meeting new club members and shootin' the breeze about hunting club stuff. A club member meeting was held and some new directions for the 2004-05 hunting season was made. A walking ranch tour for families was conducted by mrs judy, with some additional time spent working on things needing to be tended to.
Some
great food, too. The ranch provided the burgers and fixin's,
and club members brought side dishes. Can't wait til the 2004-05
deer season gets here. I believe it's gonna be the best ever!
Sure am looking forward to it! ![]()
THIRD PLACE FINISH, OLJIM'S 5K DOG RUN!

Oljim's
most recent 5K event was held at the site of the annual dog
run in Schertz, Texas on April 24th. Lotsa good weather and a flat
track (uh, jim don't do hills very good,,lol,,) resulted in the
his fastest recorded 5K time ever. Yipppeee!!,, ![]()
Here's a photo taken of jim during the race. See all the doggie event photo's by clicking HERE!
2004 WHITE-TAILED DEER FOOD PLOTTIN' UPDATE!
All the seeding, harrowing, and rolling for the Reed family food plot was completed on April 17, 2004. Bands of alyce clover, buckwheat, and iron and clay cowpeas were planted. Each plant species will be indentified and monitored using cages to determine rate of growth. Plants inside and outside the cages will be compared to determine which of the plants are being consumed best the rate and timing of food plot consumption.

Since this'll be the Reed Ranch's first formal food plot season over several food plot areas, the 2004 year will be a learning year, with a more full-blown food plot season planned for 2005.
More
to come on this! Oughta be a fun year!
,,,and we plan on learning LOTS about food plot planting on the Reed
Ranch. To the left, there's a May 12th photo of the flowerin'
buckwheat, less than a month after the planting of the seed. With all
the moisture and sunshine, things are looking good so far.
The iron and clay cowpeas, alyce clover, and buckwheat are considered warm season food plots focusing on deer nutrition. Currently, there's no plans to plant any cool season food plots.
The
club member food plot soil preparation has now been completed and
the seeding is planned for the week of May 17th. More photo's are
forthcoming,
so you can see how things are going. Gonna be an interesting year
on the Reed Ranch. Can't wait til deer season starts! ![]()
The
Reed Ranch photo album keeps getting bigger and bigger. Lots of
