Plans Now Being Made for Reed Ranch Generation Transfer!

Reed Family
4th and 5th Reed Generation Landowners!

Many of you on this newsletter list are aware that the ownership of the Reed Family Ranch is currently under 3rd generation ownership with ol-dad/grand-dad Jim Reed as the current owner. Over the past several months, the topic of ownership transfer and estate planning has been an important item of discussion at Reed family group gatherings.

Here's a recap of Reed Family generation info:

• 1st Generation Landowner - Lottie Cureton Reed - Migration to Navarro County, Kerens area, in 1893 from Lancaster County, South Carolina with husband Jimmy Francis Reed
• 2nd Generation Landowner - Tillman Francis Reed - Began 1940's-50's Ownership
• 3rd Generation Landowner - Jim (aka oljim) Francis Reed - Began mid-1990's Ownership
• 4th Generation - James Tillman Reed, Jimmy Gene Reed, Traci Renee Keele
• 5th Generation on the Horizon! - Hagen Keele, Anna Keele, Kaylee Reed

Jim Reed & Patty Weber
OlJim and Texas Land Bank Appraiser Patty Weber

We wanted everybody to know that generation transfer plans are now being discussed - especially in terms of what's the best way to accomplish this - from a ranch and estate planning standpoint. An appraisal of the value of the ranch has been completed by Certified Farm and Ranch Land Appraiser Patty Weber, who's employed by the Texas Land Bank.

The current strategy that's being discussed is for a diversified ownership transfer to occur in the future - in which OlJim's oldest son, James, takes on ownership of the ranch with son JimmyG and daughter Traci becoming landowners too!

Financial planner/attorney and close friend Charlie Jones of Waco , Texas, is providing valuable expertise in making decisions about the best route to follow with these important plans. We recognize the interest of others in this process (and what happens in terms of ranch ownership) so, if anyone has questions - please feel free to make contact with us!

Spotlight on James Reed and Daughter Kaylee

James is currently a firefighter and EMT with the Corsicana Fire Department, lives at the ranch and manages the ranch's cattle operation. He also runs the special hog, varmint, and fishing fun weekends and helps with the operation of the hunting club.

James enjoys the outdoors and it's on the horizon for him to become a ranch owner himself. Hunting and fishing are some of his favorite things to do and he can be found checking on the cattle when he's not fighting fires or saving lives, or managing some of the ranch wildlife habitat sites. Kaylee is James' daughter and is enrolled in kindergarten in Kerens , Texas ! James can be reached by email at jamesreed1977@yahoo.com .

We're proud to have James and daughter Kaylee as important members of the Reed Family Ranch group!
