After several years of spotting turkey sparsely on the Ranch, during the Spring of 2002, several jakes, hens, and a tom were being spotted several times per week.

In addition to this turkey being spotted in the bottomlands of the Ranch, most of the sightings have been along the mid-part of the ranch along a line from uncle jack's ol log cabin through the big food plot south up the hill toward the red bird patch and the south property line.

In the mid-90's, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department conducted a turkey release program directly across the Trinity River from the Ranch in Henderson County. It was our understanding that eastern turkey were released at that time, although several opinions have been offered as to whether the ranch turkey are either rio or eastern, or both.

This is grandson, Hagen, who was able to approach a tom in full spread. Hagen attempted to throw some feed corn, but the tom was more interested in the hen that he was chasing than Hagen's corn.

Here's an up close and personal look at a jake and a hen. If you'll look closely, you can see the hen up in the upper right-hand corner of the picture. Nope, we aint' feeding 'em and they ain't tame turkey. Nobody hunts the Reed Ranch turkey, so they don't know to fear humans and their vehicles.
